Accessibility

This site should work for everyone.

I want anyone to be able to use this site — including people who use a screen reader, navigate with a keyboard instead of a mouse, need larger text, or rely on other assistive technology. Buying a home is hard enough. Getting information from me shouldn't be.

If something here doesn't work for you, tell me

You don't have to explain the technical details or figure out what went wrong. Just tell me what you were trying to do and where it stopped working, and I'll take it from there.

Call or text: (956) 893-1386

Email: luis@expressmortgage.com

I read these myself — there's no ticket system and no one else in between. I usually reply the same day, and within two business days at the latest.

And if any part of this site or the online application won't work for you, that is never a dead end. Call me and we'll do it together over the phone, or come sit down with me at the office. I can take your information and your application by phone or in person, and it costs you nothing extra to do it that way.

What I've built into this site

This is a small site, and I had it built to be simple and sturdy rather than flashy. Specifically:

  • A “Skip to main content” link so keyboard users don't have to tab through the menu on every page.
  • Real headings and page structure, so a screen reader can announce the sections and jump between them.
  • Written descriptions on the photos that carry meaning, and decorative icons hidden from screen readers so they don't add noise.
  • Every form field has a visible label, and required fields are marked. Nothing depends on a mouse — links, buttons, and forms work with a keyboard.
  • Colors and type sizes chosen to stay readable, and pages that reflow when you zoom in or use a phone.
  • No pop-ups, no auto-playing video or audio, and nothing that moves or flashes on its own.
  • A complete Spanish version of the site, with the page language marked correctly so screen readers pronounce it properly.

Where things stand

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the standard most people use to measure whether a website is accessible. My target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

I'll be straight with you: this site has not been formally audited by an outside accessibility firm, so I'm not going to tell you it's perfect. I consider it partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA — meaning I've built toward that standard and I believe most of the site meets it, but some parts may not fully conform. When I find something that falls short, I fix it.

Browsers and assistive technology

The site is built with standard web technologies — HTML, CSS, and a small amount of JavaScript — and should work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on computers and phones, together with the assistive technology those browsers support. If you're using an older browser or a setup that isn't playing nice with this site, let me know what you're on. That's genuinely useful information for me.

Known limitations

A few parts of the experience aren't mine to control, and I'd rather say so than pretend otherwise:

  • The online loan application. When you click “Apply Now,” you leave this site for a secure application system run by another company. I don't control how that system is built, and I can't promise it meets the same standard. If it gives you trouble, stop and call me — we'll complete the application together instead.
  • Links to other sites. Google reviews, maps, and social media pages are run by those companies, and their accessibility is up to them.
  • Documents. Any document I send you during your loan comes from lenders, title companies, and other third parties, and some of them are not built with accessibility in mind. If you need something in a different format or read aloud to you, ask me and I'll make it work.

How I checked

I evaluated this site myself — a self-evaluation, not a paid third-party audit. If you'd like to see this site tested more formally, or if you run into something that a review should have caught, I want to hear about it.

What I'm still working on

Accessibility isn't a box I check once. Every time I add or change something on this site, I try to make it work for everyone, and I fix problems as I learn about them. Reports from real people are the most useful thing I get — if you send me one, you're not complaining, you're helping.
